La Capria (born Raffaele La Capria) is an Italian novelist, essayist, and translator born on December 13, 1922, in Naples, Italy. He studied Humanities at the University of Naples and then moved to Rome to work as a journalist. He is known for his literary works, especially his novel "Ferito a Morte" (Mortally Wounded), which won the prestigious Premio Strega literary award in 1961. His other notable works include "Un giorno d'ira" (One Day of Wrath), "La scoperta dell'Alba" (The Discovery of Dawn), and "Storia di Ida" (Story of Ida). La Capria is also a translator, having translated the works of writers such as Franz Kafka, Samuel Beckett, and Marcel Proust into Italian. He has won numerous literary awards and academic honors, including being awarded the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by the French government.
